Malta Gaming Authority

Initially referred to as the Lotteries and Gaming Authority, the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) is an organization created by the Maltese government in 2001 to regulate the gambling space in its country. Together with the UK Gambling Commission, this outfit is one of the most authoritative as far as gambling regulatory bodies are concerned. The body is tasked with ensuring that all casinos with MGA licenses conform to the gambling regulations of Malta. It also issues licenses to casinos and enforces punishment on those that fail to comply.

License Types

The MGA issues four types of licenses, which are Class One, Class Two, Class Three, and Class Four. The Class One license targets lotteries and casinos, while Class Two is meant for spread, pool, and fixed-odds betting platforms. Class Three is issued to game portals, poker rooms, and P2P gaming platforms, while Class Four is for software vendors.

License Requirements

Acquiring a casino license from MGA is a tall order. That's because the organization emphasizes such things as fair gaming, player privacy, and player security. In addition, the organization will usually task professional auditors such as eCogra and iTech to audit casino platforms before issuing a license. Surely, MGA deserves its rap as one of the best authorities in the gambling industry.
